The Bhutan National Digital Library

The Tibet Center at UVa is working with the Royal Government of Bhutan to use THL technology to create a new national digital library for Bhutan in English and the national language of Dzongkha. A preliminary version has been created during the past four years, and a public launch is expected in the near future. The collaboration has been technical as well as scholarly. UVa staff have worked with the staff from the Ministry of Information and Community to cooperatively build new forms of digital library software based upon the THL infrastructure, with exchanges entailing work and visits both in Thimphu and Charlottesville. Content collaboration has also produced digital forms of spatial data, dictionaries, journals, images, audio-video recordings, and more. Watch for the announcement of the public release in 2011 to explore the pristine culture and environment of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.
