Program Overview

The University of Virginia’s Tibetan Entrepreneurs Seminar Student Fellowship Program uses educational exchanges between the US and China to help improve the capacity of established and emerging Tibetan entrepreneurs. We have a particular interest in business activity that brings benefit to communities. Please note that the program is English medium, and thus requires a strong knowledge of English. The six-week US-based program for twelve fellows consists of four main components:

  • An entrepreneurial skills training class
  • An essential business skills training class
  • Classes and individual consultations focused on particular business issues
  • Entrepreneur mentorship with local American entrepreneurs

Participants in the US program will include emerging and established entrepreneurs from across various sectors (example: tourism, small business, music, education, medicine, etc.) who are interested in further developing their entrepreneurial capacity while integrating principles of social support in their work.

Fellowship Description
The TE program welcomes applications from Tibetans living in China who are currently working as entrepreneurs or those who are interested in starting a new enterprise. We are looking for people who value working in Tibetan communities and who view entrepreneurship not only as a way to make money, but as a way to positively impact society.

Program Duration: Six weeks (approximately January 16 – February 24, 2017)
Program Location: University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
Program Costs: All costs, including round-trip transportation from China and room and board in the US will be provided by UVA

Fellowship activities will include participating in all aspects of the TE program (including classes, workshops and site visits).
